G'day all:
Here's another of my irregularly published newsletters. Another summer
is drawing to a close, the tourists have gone home, my winter wood is
safely gathered in and our boat is laid up beside the barn. Let the
snows begin!
The summer was a busy one, and seems to have gone by awfully fast. I
visited Ontarion for two weeks in July, attending the General Synod of
the Anglican Church. The Synod was an exciting and significant event.
I had fondly imagined this would also be a nostalgic trip down memory
lane, and it was good to see a few old friends. But the traffic,
congestion and noise, and the devastating effects of unchecked
development, were too much for me. I no longer belong there.
Katie has now completed her year in Ireland and is back home with us.
She will be visiting Tim and Julie in California for a short time, then
will consider her future. We certainly hope she will find a rewarding
job close to us.
Of course the biggest event in our family this year was the arrival of
our grandson, Calum Thomas Tinker, son of Tim Tinker and Julie Stewart.
(I realise this is old news to some, but there are a few new
'subscribers' to the Granville Times). Sheila and I visited Tim and
Julie this month and met our new grandson, who is certainly a charming
young man !!
The bulk of this newsletter is a report on the California trip, with
emphasis on ornithology. There are two attachments: the first is a
plain text file, the second is an html file for those who like to read
mail using a web browser. Both have the same text (the html file is
perhaps a little prettier). You may confidently open either attachment
without fear of viruses. Hope you enjoy this little narrative.
David
